Inspiration!

I finally decided what colors I'd like to use for my office! I'm basing the scheme off of this pendant light I've been obsessed with for a while from Fredrik Mattson:

I really, really want it. I haven't been able to find a price for it.. but you know what they say: "If you have to ask..."

I figure I could always buy an Ikea light like this one and paint it.

I know the shape is totally different, but it may actually work better with some of the other elements in the room.

I'm also basing the colors off of these magnets Brady and I got from Grun in St George.

They're pretty sweet.. and really strong.

I'm hoping that this crazy pot I have will work in this new color scheme. When I lived on 300 South in Provo, the previous tenants had left this container along with some cool plants (that are now dead). I've hauled it around wherever I've gone since then.

I love the colors and the goldfish. I think it would also be a nice compliment to the aquarium I have in my office. But, the container is pretty dirty right now (it was outside all winter). I'd like to clean it up and then maybe get a plant like this one to put in it.

I also was thinking of painting the walls either "Baby Boy Blue", "Blue Seafoam", "Fairy Tale Blue", or "Serenity" (all from Benjamin Moore). I can't decide. I'm leaning more towards "Blue Seafoam". Although I kind of want to paint our kitchen in that color, or in "Serenity".

So many options, so many decisions! I'm excited.

I like aquariums.

.

It is a goal of mine to go to as many world-class aquariums as I can, including the Georgia Aquarium in, you guessed it, Georgia. The Georgia Aquarium is considered the world's largest with over 8 million gallons of fresh and marine water and more species of aquatic life than you can shake a paddle at. I mean, they even have whale sharks - the largest fish species in the world!

I would also love to be able to see the AquaDom, a 25-meter tall, cylindrical aquarium with an elevator that goes up the middle. With 238,000 gallons of seawater, it's the largest cylindrical aquarium on the planet.

I like native species.

I ran across this little website called Utah's Choice which is all about promoting the use of native plant species in landscaping.

Founded in 2003 as a nonprofit organization, the Intermountain Native Plant Growers Association is dedicated to increasing the awareness of the value of native plants and increasing the availability and use of waterwise Intermountain native plants in home and public landscapes. The vehicle for achieving our goal is the Utah's Choice program. Utah's Choice is a plant tagging and educational program designed to assist professional nurserymen to more effectively market Intermountain native plants and to educate consumers about the benefits of choosing native plants for their landscapes. The program focuses on providing the best native plants for horticultural use, increasing their availability, and making sure that consumers have the information they need to be successful cultivating these plants. Utah's Choice plants were chosen because they are easy to grow, conserve water, provide wildlife habitat and are beautiful.

Along with a list of suggested plant species, Utah's Choice provides a list of participating nurseries where these plants may be purchased.

If any of you are considering doing some landscaping or gardening this year, it would be worth your time to research some of these native plants and check out the nurseries listed!

One of my favorite nurseries here in Utah is Cactus & Tropicals. It has every plant you could ever want and offers the largest selection of orchids I've ever seen. They also have a wide variety of succulents, and we all know how I love my succulents! Not only do they carry all kinds of crazy cool plants, they also offer a good selection of beautiful pots and containers. If you're looking for something more than the standard Home Depot/Lowe's offerings, check out Cactus and Tropicals!

July 9th-13th, Brady and I are headed to Chicago! We got tickets to two Cubs games and are planning on going to the Shedd Aquarium as well as a few of the museums. We're really excited! I'm definitely looking forward to my first time at Wrigley.

Maybe while we're there, I'll pick up a couple of these:

VEGASS

A couple weeks ago we went to St. George and Las Vegas with our friends Javin and Jannell. We stayed in Jannell's family's condo in St. George and drove in to Vegas for a day. I had never really experienced Vegas before. We ended up walking The Strip for about 6 hours, visiting a good number of hotels/attractions. I must admit that I found Las Vegas to be rather repulsive and I vowed never to return (except to Henderson). That being said, we really enjoyed hanging out with Jannell and Javin, even though our location was gross. We had really tasty Mexican food at some restaurant in that creepy, fake New York City. While our friends went to see Tiger Army at The House of Blues, Megan and Luke picked us up and took us back to their new pad in Henderson. It was great to see Megan again! At her house, we all rocked our socks off playing Guitar Hero III.

The rest of our trip was spent relaxing and hanging out in St. George, including a trip to Paula's (yummy mexican food and amazing salsa) and the awesome sandwich place, Port of Subs! On our way home, we stopped by my parents' house in Cedar City for some awesome grub and a birthday celebration. It was great to visit with the 'rents, even if it was for such a short time!
