One day robots will rule the earth.

I love Giant Robot, a cool store, magazine, and gallery. The one in New York is really cool and I went there quite a bit last summer. My friend Lisa texted me today about it, and it reminded me of how great a creation Giant Robot really is. Here are some things I like from their giftshop:

Okay, so I like a lot of things from GR. I could have probably kept going.. but I'll save your little scroll fingers.

Well, we closed on our house today! All the papers are signed and we move in this weekend! Snuts! Now we start the life of a home owner — repairs, upkeep, renovation, and a great sense of ownership! We've packed about 75% of our stuff already and are antsy to get moved in. I even found a new home for the puffers! A nice lady named Eva came and picked them up about 10 minutes ago. She has another aquarium already with 2 puffers and is starting a second with my little guys. They sure were fun to have! I'll probably start another aquarium in a month or so.. maybe freshwater.

That's all I've got for now. Enjoy this:

Brady and I are moving to Lehi on Saturday. We're excited to have a place of our own and are looking forward to these next couple months in which we will very slowly accumulate the bare essentials. Right now we have a couch. I have a desk and no chair.. Brady has a chair and no desk. We do not have a bed, or a table, or chairs.. or really anything else. We have a small backyard covered in grass and no lawn mower. Maybe we'll just let it grow until it snows and we no longer have to think about it.. If you don't see the problem, the problem doesn't exist! I'm also debating whether or not I should sell/give away my last 2 pufferfish before the move. If you know anyone who may want them, they're pretty cute and look like this:

They have the potential to grow up to 6-7 inches, although mine are about 2.5-3" right now. They're quite fun, but require a bit more care than freshwater fish. If you're interested, here's some info and here's some more.

Friends, family, and random blog prowlers, I have exciting news. I will be having my first solo show/exhibition this August/September. The show opening will be August 17th, the third Friday, as part of Salt Lake City's monthly Gallery Stroll. I will be showing some older work as well as my more recent 7 Deadly Sins series. Prints of these images will be for sale at the gallery as well as online. The show will be located at the recently renovated Saans Photography Showroom/Gallery. So mark your calendars and come support me! If you can't make it to the opening, the show will be up for 4 weeks following the opening.

I've always had a love for good, clean design. In the last few years, this love has grown into an obsession with all things modern. Now that the time has come to purchase our first home, modern home furnishings have moved to the absolute forefront of my mind. I feel it is time to share with you some of the things I've found along the way.

Other than the 2 hours of driving...

...I like my new job. The people I work with there are just the greatest of people. I really enjoy them. It feels like I have a lot in common with Sandy, the lady who has been training me. She's one of those people that I just feel instantly comfortable around, which is rare. I feel that I can be very open with her and she won't pass any judgements. (I hope she feels the same) It seems like she and I have the same sense of humor, which always makes things more enjoyable.. no awkwardness or weird looks. As for the job itself, it seems like there will be some good opportunities that come from it. Right now the only real drawback I can see is the commute. I filled my tank up yesterday morning and it's already at half. With gas prices the way they are, I don't know how long I'll be able to spend over $200 a month just on my gas for my car.. let alone however much Brady has to spend on his. He's pretty convinced that he'll take the bus or the Novell shuttle to work once we move to Lehi. This will actually work out just fine since he is allowed to download the source code and work from home. So while he's on the bus, he can actually be working and applying the commute time towards his regular work day. Save money on gas, help out a little with the air/environment by using mass transportation, and get work done all at the same time! Sounds like a good plan to me.

In other news, we are moving in 9 days! We go for the inspection next Wednesday, sign all the closing papers on Thursday, and begin moving on Saturday! Brady and I are both pretty excited. Things will be a little crazy for a while, with both of us working full time and me not getting home until 7pm.. and us not having any furniture other than a small couch.. Yes.. things will definitely be crazy, but I think we can make it. The townhome we're buying is pretty nice and will be a great first place. We already have a few ideas for upgrades we'd like to make right away. Mostly just repainting everything and replacing the linoleum in the bathrooms with tile. Also, the banister on the stairs is totally whack. I'll take a photo of it before we replace it, since I don't think a written description could really do it justice. Let me just say that I have coined it the "Tetris railing".. that may help your visualization.

Well.. That's about all I've got for now. I don't like how this entry has turned out to sound like a letter or something, because I feel like I have to close it with a "Talk to you soon!" or a "Thank you for your time. I hope to hear from you soon!". So I'll just end it with this:

Strange Love

I got a new job today. I will be some sort of studio manager / assistant / retoucher person. For how much I hated my old job, I'm strangely un-enthused. It's a bit anti-climactic.

My brother-in-law, the restless entrepreneur, the go-getter, the ladder-climber of personal success, has decided that the little cards I give to friends and family for their birthdays, are so good, they should be mass produced. And so he started "Capree's Cards" and has already got 3 boutiques ready to order them. All I have to do now is draw them. So I am thinking maybe instead of just "Capree's Cards", we go the branding route, just call them "Capree" or "Capree's Curiosities".. and branch out from there... stationary, stickers, coin purses, aprons, t-shirts, bags, buttons, dolls, fabric.. endless possibilities. I think I would like that. So if anyone knows of any cool boutiques in SLC, the Bay Area, Portland, Seattle, NYC, Chicago, Scottsdale / Phoenix, San Diego, LA, Denver, or anywhere else, please let me know.

We move into our new house in 11 days. Brady's birthday is in 13 days. Pioneer day is in 14 days. We leave for Comicon in 15 days. We get back from Comicon in 19 days. I start a new life in 20 days.

There aren't a lot of things I completely loathe, but Crocs are one of them. In my opinion, they are the ugliest shoe on the planet. Just when I thought they couldn't possibly get any fuglier, they came out with this:

... The Fuzzy Croc ...

Someone please burn down their manufacturing facilities.

About

.

"My adventure is your advantage!" was started by Capree Kimball one Summer night in 2007.  What began as a personal blog of ramblings and findings has grown into a professional design blog full of inspiration.  Capree's goal is to inspire readers through art, design, fashion, and decor.  Occasionally some other odd bits get thrown in for good measure.  So saddle up and get ready for some adventures in the modern world!

About Capree:

Capree Kimball is a photographer, doodler and hooligan. Though, according to some, her hooligan skills are downright shonky. She has a deep love of Victorian-era “fancy lads”, 19th Century anatomy drawings, and tin robots. Capree was born in Phoenix, Arizona and raised in Peoria, Arizona. She spent a great deal of her youth going to museums and reading through her father’s art and design books. She currently resides in Utah with her wonderful husband and their miniature schnauzer, Wrigley.  You can also find Capree spreading the mod love on Grassroots Modern and 2Modern Design Talk.

My friend Lisa told me about this website called Shorpy. It's a cool little blog with a great goal:

Shorpy is a photo blog about what life a hundred years ago was like: How people looked and what they did for a living, back when not having a job usually meant not eating... Shorpy.com is the 100-year-old photography blog that brings our ancestors back, at least to the desktop. The site is named after Shorpy Higginbotham, a boy who worked in an Alabama coal mine near the turn of the century.

I suggest you check it out!

My other friend, Megan, told me about GoodReads, a place where you and your friends can share what books you're reading, give book reviews, find new books, and be happy. Check it out and be my friend!

And last, but not least, my lovely hubby told me about THIS awesomeness. Check it!

Happy 4th of July, you crazy, crazy kids.

People have been camping out for days along University Avenue in anticipation of this year's "Freedom Festival" parade. Hundreds of people line the streets up to 3-3.5 days in advance, staking their claim along the grassy strip that lines the street. Sparkling floats made by local churches and civic groups sit in an unlit parking lot, waiting for the morning's light. They seem oddly out of place - abandoned, without spectators. The seats that will cradle the derrieres of important community members appear now to be nothing more than bizarre thrones. A lone parking lot attendant ensures their safekeeping.

The few remaing threads of Americana are preserved for one year more.
