Loads of great finds and inspiration from this past week on GRM!

These hanging mobiles from Salty and Sweet are so, so cool. Not exactly recommended for children.

Very funny "Recession Humor Cards" from Rock Scissor Paper - At least the recession hasn't hit your hairline.

Meet Richard Powers, he's a self-taught architecture/interior photographer whose work will blow your mind.

I'm obsessed with Josh Cochran's work and you should be too.

Looking for some inspiration for your garden? Check out the work of garden designer Amir Schlezinger!

TypeFace Tuesday

I'm going to be unveiling some new features here on MAIYA over the next little while, the first of which is TypeFace Tuesday!

TypeFace Tuesday celebrates the use of text in art and design, as well as The Font itself. I'm pretty excited about it and hope you are too! Reader submissions and suggestions are, of course, always welcome! If you spot something you think would be perfect for TypeFace Tuesday, shoot me an email!

Now, on with the show!

Typeface Wall Art from Chiasso - $288
46" W X 1.375 D X 32" H
Printed on canvas. It reads:
The meaning can sometimes be found in the context of the typeface.
In this case, "read between the lines"?

You may or may not already know about dafont.com, a site where designers upload fonts and users can download them for free (usually). Sound too good to be true? It's not. Here are a few that caught my eye:
Pee Pants Script by Kirk Shelton, Pointy by Pointy Design, Soda by Ronan le Guevellou, VTKS Revolt by Douglas Vitkauskas, Sanserifing by Extate, Sketch Rockwell by artill.

Let me know what you think of TypeFace Tuesday and if you find something great, tell me!

Can I get that covered in silver please, miss?

This was released a while ago, but I just now got around to really thinking about it. Although it's gorgeous to behold, I think the idea of a chunk of wood slathered in a precious metal is a bit like giving the middle finger to 95% of the world. That's just me.

This striking piece puts equal emphasis on surface and substance. Using a proprietary process, a massive block of wood is coated with a brilliant layer of silver, resulting in a piece whose stunning surface does nothing to hide the individuality and character of the wood beneath.

Periodic Table (Oi, the pun!) designed by One & Co for Council.

Saligia

Saligia is Latin for the 7 Deadly Sins and Johnny Slogan aka Thomas Von Staffeldt may have committed a few with his reinterpretation of Arne Jacobsen's Series 7 chair. But really, they're actually very well done and an achievement in design in and of themselves. Here are a few of my favorite, including "Avaritia/Greed" where all that's left are the little protective nubs.

From left to right: Invidia (envy), Superbia (pride), Avaritia (greed), Gula (gluttony)

The chairs are for auction here.

Objectified: A Documentary Film by Gary Hustwit

I'm pretty excited about the new Gary Hustwit documentary, Objectified. I think you should be too.

Here's the trailer:

Objectified is a feature-length independent documentary about industrial design. It’s a look at the creativity at work behind everything from toothbrushes to tech gadgets. It’s about the people who re-examine, re-evaluate and re-invent our manufactured environment on a daily basis. It’s about personal expression, identity, consumerism, and sustainability. It’s about our relationship to mass-produced objects and, by extension, the people who design them.
